About the Music Ministry
Flat Rock AME Church Music Ministry is a vital part of the church, creating an atmosphere conducive to worship. Each Sunday, the Music Ministry ministers to the congregation through inspiring and uplifting musical selections that prepare hearts and minds for the spoken Word. It acts as the catalyst by setting the tone for a spirit filled worship experience.
The Music Ministry is comprised of four distinct choirs, each with its own unique style, sound, and musical genre:
The Rock Mass Choir sings on 1st Sundays during Communion Service, presenting a blend of traditional and contemporary gospel music. The choir is comprised of members from the former Sanctuary Choir, Voices of Inspiration Choir, Radical Praise Choir, and Men of the Rock Choir.
The Radical Praise Choir debuted in October 2018 and was established to represent our Millennial generation. Because of its continued success and growth, both musically and spiritually, the choir now leads worship during 2nd Sunday services. Their ministry is characterized by a high-spirited, energetic, and modern contemporary sound.
The Men of the Rock Choir ministers on 3rd Sundays, offering an inspirational blend of gospel styles. Their repertoire includes quartet-style, traditional, and contemporary gospel music, featuring uplifting and soul-stirring selections.
The Young People's Department (YPD) Choir ministers on 4th Sundays and is comprised of children and youth of various ages. They delight the congregation with age-appropriate contemporary gospel selections while developing their gifts and talents through the ministry of music.
In addition to its Sunday worship responsibilities, the FRAME Music Ministry represents the church beyond its walls by providing music for community events and participating in worship services, programs and special engagements at the invitation of other churches and organizations. The Music Ministry also accompanies the Pastor and Pastoral Staff at invited engagements, serving wherever and whenever the ministry is called upon to do so.
This spirit-filled ministry, under the pastoral leadership of Rev. Edward Johnson, Jr., is led by Mrs. Anna Singleton, Director of Music, with Mr. Hollis Mason serving as percussionist.
